How much should you charge for digital photo downloads?
There's no single right number -- but there are real factors worth actually thinking through before you pick one.
What actually goes into the price
- Your time -- shooting, culling, and editing time is real cost, even for a file with no physical production.
- Your local market -- what similar photographers in your area and specialty charge is a real, useful data point, not something a generic guide can tell you.
- What you actually keep -- on Image Depot, every paid plan is a flat 0% commission, so the price you set is the price you keep (minus your payment processor's own standard fees). On Free, 3% comes off the top -- worth factoring in if you're pricing on Free.
- Bundling vs. à la carte -- a single-image price versus a "full gallery" price changes how clients actually decide what to buy.
A real, honest starting point
Rather than a single number, decide what you actually need to earn per session and work backward from your expected volume of downloads -- then check that number against what photographers in your specific market and specialty are really charging. Discount codes (see discount codes) let you test volume pricing or run a promotion without changing your base price.
